A diamonds value and price is based on the combination of the four C's: Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat weight. Each Hermitage Diamond is individually graded by at least 3 qualified diamond graders, to ensure accuracy and consistency according to the four C's.
With close attention to the 4 C's at each step from mine to finished gem, Hermitage ensures a more brilliant, more valuable and more beautiful diamond.
Cut
Cut is assessed according to how well the diamond returns light to the viewer. The quality of the cut refers to the measurements of the diamond's proportions, the symmetry of the facets and the quality of the polish.
Colour
Colour is graded by comparison to a series of master colour grading stones, that each act as the borderline between 2 colour grades, and is then assigned a grade according to the internationally accepted scale of D - Z.
Clarity
Clarity is graded according to how free from impurities the diamond crystal is. Clarity grading uses a series of abbreviations to denote the size, number, location, type and intensity of inclusions as well as external blemishes. The type and arrangement of inclusions allows the stone to be identified.
Carat Weight
Carat weight is how heavy the finished gemstone is. Carat weight is conclusively determined by weighing the stone on a diamond balance or scale.
